Our Reporting Standards

Capstone exists to cover the business of Canadian construction with the seriousness it deserves. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.

How we report

Every Capstone article begins with primary research. We read the government documents, industry reports, balance sheets and project filings before we talk to anyone, and we talk to people who have direct knowledge of the work, not just the messaging around it. Claims of fact in our coverage are sourced: to a named document, a named organization, or a named person on the record. Where a source asks not to be named, we explain why in the piece.

Before an article is published, it is read by a second editor for accuracy, balance and clarity. Numbers, dates and names are verified against the underlying source. If a piece relies on a single source for a contested claim, we either find a second source or the claim does not run.

Editorial independence

Capstone editorial is not commissioned by, paid by, or conditional on relationships with the companies we cover. We do not allow advertisers, sponsors or corporate profile partners to review, approve or influence editorial content. Where commercial work appears in our publications, it is labelled. Our reporting decisions are made by the editorial team alone.

Sources and citations

Where a piece references public data, official announcements, regulatory filings or third-party reports, we link directly to the primary source at the end of the article. Readers should be able to follow the trail from a claim to the document it came from. When a primary source is not online or sits behind a paywall, we identify it by title and date so it can be located.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and visibly. Our policy and the running list of corrections to date live on the Corrections page. To report a factual error, write to admin@capstonemagazine.ca.
